It's that time of year again....

September 7, 2010 4:40 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

You guys - it's September *already*. You know what that means? Yes, I know it's almost Fall, but that's not what I'm talking about. It's time for "Mercedes Benz Fashion Week" in New York City! And in September, they show the collections for Spring/Summer wear for next year.

Well, I'm excited to tell you guys that I will be getting to go to NYC this season and bring you all kinds of coverage - everything from backstage, talking to makeup artists and hairstylists; front of house, watching the actual clothing presentations; checking out hair and beauty salons; and even reporting from some of the best parties during the week. Now, not only will I be attending MBFW, I will also be in NYC for "Fashion's Night Out", which is a night to celebrate shopping and fashion. As of right now I think there is something like 950 events lined up in NYC alone! But, it's not just a NYC event - it's global - make sure and look to see if there are any events in your town so you can participate, too. (*You may want to google if your town isn't listed. I know for a fact several Oklahoma City places are doing something, but it's Oklahoma isn't listed on the page. Boo!)

I will be nice and give you guys fair warning - if you are following me on twitter you know that when I travel I tweet *a lot*. Well, considering everything going on this trip, expect my tweeting to be in overdrive. I can't help it - I wanna share what I am doing THAT MINUTE with you guys & that's the best way to do it. So, if you wanna take a break from me for a week, I totally understand. (*Just come back on the 15th). But, if you want to feel like you are there with me, then make sure to follow me and you'll get all the up to the minute stuff that I have going on.

I'm excited to head out there on Thursday & hope you are excited to go with me, too!

*UPDATE* I just wanted to include some links that I found about happenings around Oklahoma City for Fashion's Night Out OKC: The MOOD blog lists several of the participants, here is the Facebook page for the event and here is Alex, from "The Makeup Bar" (*who is primarily spearheading this event) speaking with the Fox 25 Morning Show about FNO. So, all you local OKC folks have no excuse for not getting out there Friday, because you can't say you didn't know what was going on!

Gilt Goupe & Target have a pre-sell collaboration

August 17, 2010 9:08 am · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

I make no secret of my Target love. I think it's neat that they do collaborations with designers to make special collections just for them. (*A few past designers were Anna Sui, Alexander McQueen and John Paul Gaultier, for example). The thing with these collections is that they fly out the door before some of you have a chance to go check them out.

Well, Target has decided to team up with online invitation-only sale site, Gilt Groupe, to provide an exclusive 36-hour preview-shopping event of select pieces from Target’s newest upcoming designer collaborations with John Derian, Tucker and Mulberry.

Now, I firmly expect this sale to sell out quickly, as there is usually a frenzy for these collections. So, I would def say that if you are interested in being a part of it, then you need to sign up for membership ahead of time. (*Just to let you know, I *do* get a referral bonus if you sign up thru my invite.)

So, tell me - does getting a head start ahead of the masses interest you enough to check out this sale, or are you going to wait until each collection comes out to see it in real life before getting anything?

Sponsored Post: Be Visibly Smooth on the Red Carpet

April 7, 2010 3:41 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

You guys, I recently had a chance to host a "Red Carpet Event" sponsored by Dove Visibly Smooth Deodorant. (*And when I say sponsored, I mean they were generous enough to provide a flip camera to record the fun, funds for food, drinks and goodies for a gift bag for the party, jewelry for the guests to help them feel dressed up for the Red Carpet and samples of Dove Visibly Smooth Deodorant to try.)

Unfortunately, my party wasn't able to be scheduled for an Oscars viewing party, but I did have the Red Carpet vibe by showing Meryl Streep's Oscar nominated performance in "Julie and Julia", where she plays Julia Child. (*Did you know that that was her 16th nomination - more than any other actor/actress in the history of the Academy?). I also enjoy the "Julie" (*played by Amy Adams) side of the movie, as I can kind of relate to someone starting their own blog & enjoying when people discover it, too.

But, before we started the movie, we chatted about Dove's Visibly Smooth Deodorant. Have you guys heard about this? They say it "is an anti-perspirant deodorant that works to minimize the visual appearance of underarm hair over time, while providing effective 24-hour odor and wetness protection. Its unique formula contains Pro-Epil Complex and natural extracts, as well as Dove 1/4 translucent moisturizers." This pretty much means that it's got 24hr protection and while its NOT a dipilatory, it will make your underarm hair less noticable *over time* - not instantly. It also smells really nice. We had a chance to try the "Wild Rose" scent, but there is also a "Nature Fresh" scent that I have smelled, too. Since I haven't used it for all that long, I can't say that I have gotten the full benefit of the "over time" visible difference, but I can say that my underarms do feel softer already, so that's definitely something.

You can pick up either one of these scents up at any local mass market drugstore or big box store for around $5, but if you click here right now there is a $2off coupon for you to use. PLUS, very shortly I will be giving away *5* sticks to 5 lucky readers. Can't beat *free* right?

Rue the day

November 20, 2009 4:35 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

I think I may have mentioned a few times that I'm not great with the whole "clothes" thing. And, usually I am fine with that, but sometimes it's apparent I need to dress it up a bit. Like for the upcoming holiday season. Now that my birthday is over, I am now left to ponder what all I have to do for the rest of the year.

I'm sure that I will have to go to at least one party, prolly more, just like you. Those can be anything from family obligations or office parties to drinking at the bars with friends to forget that you have to go to the family obligation/office parties or just whatever. I know I want to make getting ready for these things as painless as possible, so I think I need the easiest thing a girl can wear, a LBD (little black dress). However... two problems (*that I am certain you will agree with me on): 1) I don't wanna go out shopping for one & 2) I wanna spend my money on gifts & not a bunch on my clothing.

That said, I was happy I got the info on an upcoming event that would save me a bunch of headache (*and cash). The invitation-only, online boutique store Rue La La "will launch the exclusive ELLE Little Black Dress Boutique on Monday, November 23 at 11AM" and it will only run for *48* hours, with savings from 30% up to 80% off retail prices. This event has "Rue La La partnered with Violet Moon Gaynor, Senior Fashion & Accessories Editor at Elle.com, to hand pick 16 dresses from top fashion designers creating a covetable selection of LBDs":

  • Badgley Mischka
  • Carmen Marc Valvo
  • Laundry
  • Robert Rodriguez

So, not only can you look good, you can be wearing a designer LBD for a lot less money. Nice.

Now, I know that I said it was "invitation-only", but please - am I really gonna tease you with this info if you can't get it for yourself? Hell no. So, I have an invitation code that lets you get signed up at Rue La La before the big event on Monday. But, I'll only let you use it if you promise to take a pic of you in your new LBD heading out to party it up, okay? Okay.

Victoria's Velvet fragrance

October 13, 2009 3:32 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

Tomorrow there is an event in NYC at the Victoria's Secret, on Lexington, for the launch of VS's new fragrance, "Velvet: The Fragrance".

Now, I don't know anything about this scent, but the thing that caught my eye was the fact that you could get a makeover from the VS Beauty Supermodel Artist team - led by Polly Osmond. You might rememer when I met her backstage at the Christian Siriano Spring/Summer 2010 show. It would be so cool to get a makeover from her, but, unfortch I'm in OKC and won't make it. But, if you are in NYC, head over there between 2-4pm and pick up something from their Parfums Intimes Velvet collection (*required) to get your makeover from Polly.

In addition, the model Alessandra Ambrosio will be there for autographs (*with purchase, too), there will be a "Suprise Guest", cake from Sylvia Weinstock and a chance to get a preview of the Heidi Klum VS Makeup Holiday Collection. So, since I don't get to be there for all of that, you'll have to come tell me all about it. Deal?

Backstage at Christian Siriano Spring/Summer 2010

September 27, 2009 6:06 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

I was lucky enough to be backstage for the Christian Siriano Spring/Summer 2010 show. (*yes, this is the show that I accessed backstage via the front of house. Go me!). The hair team from Aveda was led by Antoinette Beenders and the makeup team as led by Polly Osmond for Victoria's Secrety Beauty, with whom Christian did a makeup collection earlier this year.

Antoinette was pretty focused on the hair, so she didn't really speak with people much to describe what she was up to, but I was able to snag a few minutes with Polly, who explained the gloss on the eyelids the models were rocking.
