Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday"

November 26, 2010 8:15 am · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

"Black Friday" isn't all about getting up in the middle of the night to fight the crowds for bargains - this year it is also about the new limited-edition MAC collaboration with Trinidadian Hip-Hop Diva, celebrating the release of her new album, Nicki Minaj called "Pink Friday".

This vibrant pink, satin finish lipstick was designed by Nicki herself and she says her inspiration was:

"This shade is similar to the one I've worn for years by MAC (*Pink Nouveau) but with a little extra ZING! I wanted a color that represented female empowerment as well as euphoria! The color makes you feel free to rule the world. Its sexy, yet fun! It pops! Its theatrical! It turns heads! No matter your age, Pink Friday makes u feel like you're the life of the party!

And, to make this lippie even more special, it's available for purchase *only* on "Black Friday" (November 26th) and the following three Fridays - December 3rd, December 10th and December 17th on the MAC "Pink 4 Friday" page for $14.50 USD. (*It's also avail in France, Germany and in the UK on the same dates, too.)

Are you going to try to pick this color up? If you do, let me know what you think of it.

Mulberry for Target Redux

November 11, 2010 12:40 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

I know some of you lovelies aren't lucky enough to have some "Mulberry for Target" on the racks at your local Target, like I do:

But, don't fret - I found out that "On November 14, another delivery of select handbags from the collection will hit shelves in select Target stores nationwide." (*US only).

So, you have another chance to score one of these bags for yourself. If I were you, and I really wanted one of these bags, I wouldn't hesitate, as we know how fast they flew out of the stores the first delivery, and how the website is still sold out. (*Not certain if they are replenishing the online inventory, too).

Happy Birthday/Bloggiversary 2: Electric Boogaloo Giveaway!

November 10, 2010 2:50 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty
Worth
Over
$500!!

Guys, I can't believe it is already that time of year again! Another year of trying out new products, going to fashion shows, trade shows, trying new services, meeting great new people - and sharing it all with you!

As a token of my appreciation for sticking around to read my ramblings, I want to give you guys a chance to win a bunch of goodies. This year I really wanted to make a point and share with you some of my go to faves - from the "cheaper than lunch" treat to the decadent "you spent how much?". Here's what I'm giving away:

  • Eight Body Moisture - Ginger Lime: The fresh scent wakes you up and it feels so good going on. I'm just glad my kid doesn't like lotion, or he would have taken this along with my body wash. ($24/ea)
  • Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser: Hands down my favorite eye makeup remover. So gentle on the eyes & no weird film left afterwards. I wept when I finished my last bottle. No lie. ($24/ea)
  • Mally Beauty Volumizing Waterproof Mascara: I do not like waterproof mascara, except for this one. Seriously. When I got this one I used it for a couple of months before I even realized it *was* waterproof - it just didn't feel like other wp mascaras out there. And it makes my lashes look good, too! You'll get *2* of these, so you can decide to hoard them for yourself or share one with a friend. ($20/ea)
  • Votre Vu Duette: This combo lotion/lip balm is a multi-taskers dream. I may or may not have had words with a TSA agent at the airport when I forgot to check it, since it is a smidge over 3oz. (*Spoiler: I won!) Also, this scent is heavenly. ($39/ea)
  • Mario Badescu Lip Wax: I recently gave my tube up to my friend who had lips like Lisa Rinna used to have due to an allergic reaction. Her situation was dire. I would only willingly give up my tube in emergencies like that. It's that good. ($5/ea)
  • Mario Badescu Flower and Tonic Mask: Sometimes my face just needs a little TLC, so I'll slather this mask on for a little soothing. However, last time I grabbed it, I realized I hadn't closed it properly and it had dried out. I was so devastated I attempted to revive it with tap water. Don't do that. ($18/ea)
  • Mario Badescu Super Rich Olive Body Lotion: In the winter my legs get really dry and itchy. I squeeze some of this on before bed, rub it all in and the itchiness goes away. Heavy duty, but light moisturize. And it absorbs quickly so my sheets don't get all gross. ($10/ea)
  • CoverFX MintGlaze FX: This lip primer works great on lips, but it does amazing things on mosquito bites, too. Seriously. I don't know how, but when I used this on some nasty bites this summer - *bam* - they went away QUICK. No lie. I'm giving away *2* tubes of this, so that you can use one on your lips and one on your bites, since you really don't wanna mix the two, do you? ($22/ea)
  • Three Custom Color Cream to Powder Blush in "Morning After": I love cream blushes now. And I know some of you are afraid to try them because you might be intimidated. This almost neutral shade is a perfect way to ease into it, esp since it dries down to a powdery finish anyway. ($22.50/ea)
  • Orlane Paris Extreme Anti-Wrinkle Regenerating Night Care: Yep, this is expensive and oh so decadent. It also feels good and works really well at soothing my tired skin by absorbing fast & not sitting on top of my skin like so many night creams do. It makes it feel like my has bounced back overnight when I use it. Of course, it better for the price tag, right? And I'm giving you a jar to see for yourself! ($300/ea)

You all know I am nosy, so, this year's contest question(s) is "Have you bought or tried anything that I have written about? If so, what?". I'm really just curious if anything did so I can know if I am alone in my like for something. Anyway, enter your answer, name and email addy in the widget below, please:

I'll run the contest from now until midnight the night of the 16th and will announce the winner next week on my birthday, the 17th! Good luck!

Not just your guy's oil

November 5, 2010 12:44 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

Okay, confession time. I'm a thief. Well, technically, I'm more of a "it didn't work for you so I'm going to take it and, no, you can't have it back" gal, but "thief" is much shorter to say.

Here's the story - we were sent some Lab Series for Men products here to try at OGBHQ (*yeah, that sounds dumb doesn't it? Hmm....). In trying to get feedback on them I got a series of "It smells okay" "Meh" "I'm using it, aren't I?" which isn't usually the most helpful when trying to find out how products work. Unfortunately, there was one product that I did get full on feedback of "I think this stuff is causing me bumps. I don't think I want to use it any more." It was the Lab Series Smooth Shave Oil. Now, we all know that not every product works for everyone, so that doesn't mean this is bad, just that it didn't work for him. That it mind - *yoink* - it's mine now.

See, I had an idea. I wanted to see how this would work to help shave my underarms. If it's gentle enough for facial skin, then surely it would be good for my pits, too, right? Yep! I can tell you that I will be hard pressed to go back to using creams, foams or gels with my razor in my armpits again. This Smooth Shave Oil can be used as a pre-shave softener, or as a shaving medium on it's own - I use it on its own & it works easily on stubble, without drag or irritation. I haven't gotten any kinds of bumps, ingrown or reactionary, from it either. (*I can't say that it makes my razor last longer, because I use my razor so far past it's use by it's not even funny, but, dang they are too expensive not to, imo, but, i do know that my razor hasn't been near as clogged up with gunk like I usually see after using creams or gels, so there's that.)

A bottle runs $18 for 1oz, but, since it only takes a few drops for each side, I bet this bottle will last you far longer than the can/tubes of stuff you've already got going on in the shower. And, it's fragrance free, so, no worries of smelling like your guy's body wash or anything like that to clash with your deo.

So what say you? Are you willing to use an oil on a delicate area or are you attached to a scented foam you can't part with now? Lemme know - what do you use to shave your pits?

*Disclaimer: A sample was provided by PR for consideration.

Chella's Rebranding Star

November 1, 2010 1:18 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

Everyone loves a chance to reinvent/rebrand themselves. Like the shy girl at school who moves to a new school district and gets to suddenly become the outgoing hottie she really was under the braids and glasses at her old school. Or even the serum that realized it could become a multi-tasking powerhouse. Such is the case with Chella's "Skin Firming Serum Daily Primer".

Chella Skin Care has been busy rebranding themselves this year, which includes a new website, logo and packaging. Not only that, they realized that one of their popular serums would do double duty as a great makeup primer. (*You guys know how much I love a good primer.) They say it will:

  • Reduces Appearance of Wrinkles: Amino Acids work to both improve skin’s elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
  • Creates a Long Wearing Make-up Foundation: Formulated to create the perfect smooth and taut prepped face perfectly primed for enduring make up application without a tacky feel or residue.
  • Helps Soothe and Repair: Grape Seed and Green Tea extract nurture skin.

All of this means that with continued use, it will help to keep the elasticity in your skin and help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I can tell you that I had a chance to try this and I felt a not unpleasant tightening of the skin - like it was straightening everything out, kinda like a sheet on a bed. Now, I don't have a lot of deepset wrinkles that this would affect (*knock wood), but I did feel like my skin was smooth and ready for my makeup - which after application, I could tell that it helped my tinted moisturizer last longer than with out it, so, it does work for that. One downside is that there is not any SPF in this, so be sure to apply some via sunscreen or moisturizer when you use this.

This runs for $90 on Chella's site, which can be tough for a lot of you. But, if you are looking to cut down on the number of products you are using daily, combining those products costs & the fact that you only use a few drops, making this 1oz pump last a long time, this might just be the product for you.

So, what say you? Do you like multi-tasking products or do you like individual products with a specific purpose?
