"Ginger + Liz" on AHALife *today*

October 8, 2010 12:12 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

Have you guys heard about Ginger + Liz nailpolishes? They are "a nail polish line that mixes high-impact color with an organic, non-harmful formula." (*They have a fab grey called "Can you keep a secret?" I am coveting.)

If you haven't had a chance to try them yet, I wanna let you in on a deal - they are the featured sale on AHALife. You can purchase one of three select sets of 3 polishes each for $30 or all three sets (9 polishes total) for $80. The available sets are *Metallics* (which includes Got My Groove Back, a cool gold; Swagger, an icy bronze; and Tough Luxe, a glittering green), *Brights* (which includes Boss Lady, a fiery red; Keep Me Interested, a juicy orange; and Heart Breaker, a pink-tinged purple), and *Pastels* (which includes Half Naked, a milky white; Boy Toy, a pale aqua; and He’s Into Me, an opaque lavender).

Not familiar with AHALife? It's what they call a "constantly evolving 24-hour content discovery site" - meaning, it's a short term sale site, but in their case they feature one item, in limited quatities, per day. Think of it as an upscale woot!, where the items for sale are "highly curated finds from top influencers in design, fashion, art, food, lifestyle and more" and not cheap electronics. One item per day.

With limited quantities you know these sets will sell out quickly, so head over now to check them out.

Gilt Goupe & Target have a pre-sell collaboration

August 17, 2010 9:08 am · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

I make no secret of my Target love. I think it's neat that they do collaborations with designers to make special collections just for them. (*A few past designers were Anna Sui, Alexander McQueen and John Paul Gaultier, for example). The thing with these collections is that they fly out the door before some of you have a chance to go check them out.

Well, Target has decided to team up with online invitation-only sale site, Gilt Groupe, to provide an exclusive 36-hour preview-shopping event of select pieces from Target’s newest upcoming designer collaborations with John Derian, Tucker and Mulberry.

Now, I firmly expect this sale to sell out quickly, as there is usually a frenzy for these collections. So, I would def say that if you are interested in being a part of it, then you need to sign up for membership ahead of time. (*Just to let you know, I *do* get a referral bonus if you sign up thru my invite.)

So, tell me - does getting a head start ahead of the masses interest you enough to check out this sale, or are you going to wait until each collection comes out to see it in real life before getting anything?

Rue the day

November 20, 2009 4:35 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

I think I may have mentioned a few times that I'm not great with the whole "clothes" thing. And, usually I am fine with that, but sometimes it's apparent I need to dress it up a bit. Like for the upcoming holiday season. Now that my birthday is over, I am now left to ponder what all I have to do for the rest of the year.

I'm sure that I will have to go to at least one party, prolly more, just like you. Those can be anything from family obligations or office parties to drinking at the bars with friends to forget that you have to go to the family obligation/office parties or just whatever. I know I want to make getting ready for these things as painless as possible, so I think I need the easiest thing a girl can wear, a LBD (little black dress). However... two problems (*that I am certain you will agree with me on): 1) I don't wanna go out shopping for one & 2) I wanna spend my money on gifts & not a bunch on my clothing.

That said, I was happy I got the info on an upcoming event that would save me a bunch of headache (*and cash). The invitation-only, online boutique store Rue La La "will launch the exclusive ELLE Little Black Dress Boutique on Monday, November 23 at 11AM" and it will only run for *48* hours, with savings from 30% up to 80% off retail prices. This event has "Rue La La partnered with Violet Moon Gaynor, Senior Fashion & Accessories Editor at Elle.com, to hand pick 16 dresses from top fashion designers creating a covetable selection of LBDs":

  • Badgley Mischka
  • Carmen Marc Valvo
  • Laundry
  • Robert Rodriguez

So, not only can you look good, you can be wearing a designer LBD for a lot less money. Nice.

Now, I know that I said it was "invitation-only", but please - am I really gonna tease you with this info if you can't get it for yourself? Hell no. So, I have an invitation code that lets you get signed up at Rue La La before the big event on Monday. But, I'll only let you use it if you promise to take a pic of you in your new LBD heading out to party it up, okay? Okay.

Rodial + HauteLook.com = SALE!

October 19, 2009 1:33 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

I swear, this rainy, not rainy - just cloudy, oh wait, it's 45 degrees, no, wait - it's 74 degrees weather here in Oklahoma is doing a number on my skin - esp my legs. They are like itchy scratchy all the time, esp since I wear jeans over'em daily. Well, over the weekend, I had a chance to try a new body moisturizer from UK company, Rodial, called crème de la crème.

They say, "shea butter and vitamin E rich and nourishing body moisturiser, helps firm, hydrate and restore skin’s elasticity, instantly absorbed it gives a long lasting hydration and calms irritation or reaction caused by sun, cold and wind." So, that sounds good to me and my crazy legs, and gave it a whirl.

I gotta say that I really liked the way that it absorbed right in, and didn't leave me feeling all heavy and greasy. But it didn't absorb in so much that I felt like it didn't do any good and that my legs were just sponges, either. Nice middle ground. I'm going to keep using and see if it helps keep the dry itchies at bay, but I wanted to let you know that I had tried it - esp since I am going to let you in on a secret.

See, HauteLook.com, the online, exclusive, limited time only, sale shop is having a sale on Rodial today and tomorrow (October 19th and 20th, 2009). During the sale, members can pick up Rodial products anywhere from 45% to 60% off (regular prices), including the crème de la crème that I am trying out now. But, if you are not a member, don't worry - I have a special invite code just for you - Click Here! - so you can try this stuff out, too.

Beauty Brands Tips and Toes Sale

May 11, 2009 1:20 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty
I know that several of you don't have a Beauty Brands near you, but for those of you that do, here is a great special for keeping your tips and toes in tip top shape for sandal season (yep, I kinda rolled my eyes at that sentence, too. Ha!) Beauty Brands is a Salon/Spa/Retail Store with everything from skincare, haircare and cosmetics. They also have one of the largest selecions of nail care/polishes around me, at least. They also team up with OPI for exclusive colors every once in a while - this time it's "Berry Extraordinary" - a blue based pink berry that is pretty and bright (I was wearing it last week, as a matter of fact.). So, this special has "Berry Extraordinary" on sale for $4.98 (reg. $8.50), which is very good. But what makes this special so great is the fact that Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat is $4.98 (reg. $9.98) and CND Stickey Base Coat is $.98 (reg. $6.95). These are just crazy cheap for two of the most widely used mani/pedi basics.

You need to get yourself to a local Beauty Brands store and pick these up before July 5th, as they don't sell online. (Or maybe ask someone *ahem* very sweetly, and they might be able to help you out at their local store).

Oh..oh..ohhh..it's MagiX

November 30, 2008 3:32 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty
Besides my fondness for QVC, you will find that I have a lot of Avon products, too. It's really hard not to, nowadays, since they have really upped their game with their products, the prices (and sales) are very good and it doesn't hurt that I have an actual little Avon walkin store that is close to my house.

One of my favorite Avon products, actually one of my any brand favorites, right now is Avon's MagiX Face Perfector SPF20.
This is Avon's colorless gel-powder primer. I gotta say, I just got on the primer wagon this year and this is by far my favorite that I have tried. It just sets so nicely, with a light powdery finish, that is so subtle but is so effective. I rarely leave the house now without putting some of this on - and this comes from the "Eh, maybe I'll just put on some tinted moisturizer before I head out.....or not" girl. Now, this might be similar in texture/finish as the Monistat 7 trick, but I never got around to trying that. But, with this having an SPF of 20 already built in, it's already better that that anyway.

This usually runs for $10, but it seems like Avon is always having a sale. I know the last sale I saw it was buy one/get one 1/2 off so I picked up two, which ended up being $7.50/ea. Hard to beat that for something so good, imo.
