Happy Birthday/Bloggiversary 2: Electric Boogaloo Giveaway!

November 10, 2010 2:50 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty
Worth
Over
$500!!

Guys, I can't believe it is already that time of year again! Another year of trying out new products, going to fashion shows, trade shows, trying new services, meeting great new people - and sharing it all with you!

As a token of my appreciation for sticking around to read my ramblings, I want to give you guys a chance to win a bunch of goodies. This year I really wanted to make a point and share with you some of my go to faves - from the "cheaper than lunch" treat to the decadent "you spent how much?". Here's what I'm giving away:

  • Eight Body Moisture - Ginger Lime: The fresh scent wakes you up and it feels so good going on. I'm just glad my kid doesn't like lotion, or he would have taken this along with my body wash. ($24/ea)
  • Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser: Hands down my favorite eye makeup remover. So gentle on the eyes & no weird film left afterwards. I wept when I finished my last bottle. No lie. ($24/ea)
  • Mally Beauty Volumizing Waterproof Mascara: I do not like waterproof mascara, except for this one. Seriously. When I got this one I used it for a couple of months before I even realized it *was* waterproof - it just didn't feel like other wp mascaras out there. And it makes my lashes look good, too! You'll get *2* of these, so you can decide to hoard them for yourself or share one with a friend. ($20/ea)
  • Votre Vu Duette: This combo lotion/lip balm is a multi-taskers dream. I may or may not have had words with a TSA agent at the airport when I forgot to check it, since it is a smidge over 3oz. (*Spoiler: I won!) Also, this scent is heavenly. ($39/ea)
  • Mario Badescu Lip Wax: I recently gave my tube up to my friend who had lips like Lisa Rinna used to have due to an allergic reaction. Her situation was dire. I would only willingly give up my tube in emergencies like that. It's that good. ($5/ea)
  • Mario Badescu Flower and Tonic Mask: Sometimes my face just needs a little TLC, so I'll slather this mask on for a little soothing. However, last time I grabbed it, I realized I hadn't closed it properly and it had dried out. I was so devastated I attempted to revive it with tap water. Don't do that. ($18/ea)
  • Mario Badescu Super Rich Olive Body Lotion: In the winter my legs get really dry and itchy. I squeeze some of this on before bed, rub it all in and the itchiness goes away. Heavy duty, but light moisturize. And it absorbs quickly so my sheets don't get all gross. ($10/ea)
  • CoverFX MintGlaze FX: This lip primer works great on lips, but it does amazing things on mosquito bites, too. Seriously. I don't know how, but when I used this on some nasty bites this summer - *bam* - they went away QUICK. No lie. I'm giving away *2* tubes of this, so that you can use one on your lips and one on your bites, since you really don't wanna mix the two, do you? ($22/ea)
  • Three Custom Color Cream to Powder Blush in "Morning After": I love cream blushes now. And I know some of you are afraid to try them because you might be intimidated. This almost neutral shade is a perfect way to ease into it, esp since it dries down to a powdery finish anyway. ($22.50/ea)
  • Orlane Paris Extreme Anti-Wrinkle Regenerating Night Care: Yep, this is expensive and oh so decadent. It also feels good and works really well at soothing my tired skin by absorbing fast & not sitting on top of my skin like so many night creams do. It makes it feel like my has bounced back overnight when I use it. Of course, it better for the price tag, right? And I'm giving you a jar to see for yourself! ($300/ea)

You all know I am nosy, so, this year's contest question(s) is "Have you bought or tried anything that I have written about? If so, what?". I'm really just curious if anything did so I can know if I am alone in my like for something. Anyway, enter your answer, name and email addy in the widget below, please:

I'll run the contest from now until midnight the night of the 16th and will announce the winner next week on my birthday, the 17th! Good luck!

*Disclaimer: All prizes are being provided by PR on my, and their clients, behalf.

Pretend French Vacay, Pt. 7: Welcome home! What'd you bring me?

July 11, 2010 1:26 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

Welp, we are back home from our pretend vacay to the City of Lights. We have to go back to work tomorrow and resume our normal lives, which isn't nearly as fun. I hope you've had as much fun as I have on this pretend trip. This series was a ton of fun for me to write and I want to thank BellaSugar (*twice!), KarlaSugar (*Ha! No relation.), OnSugar Blog (*Okay, related to the first Sugar), Karen, from Makeup and Beauty Blog (*can we be related? please?) and even the Ethiopian Review (*whaa?) for sharing it with their readers, too.

I told you there would be souvenirs at the end, and there are for these 10 lucky folks:

  • OneGreatSmile
  • Anna
  • Robin
  • DJ
  • Dana
  • rcnmail
  • woodgirl
  • Shelli
  • Valerie
  • In Her Makeup Bag

They have all won a tube of Talika Lipocils Expert. I have passed all of their info on, save for one (*looking at you rcnmail!), so they should be getting a chance to try it out for themselves shortly.

Again, thanks for playing and I hope you stick around to see what else I can ramble on about. Bisous!

Pretend French Vacay, Pt. 1: Vacation lashes & giveaway souvenir's, too

June 28, 2010 11:15 am · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

With all of the dramarama around here, I am in desperate need of a "Calgon, take me away" vacay, but, there doesn't seem to be one on the immediate horizon. To make matters worse, I feel like I am being bombarded by things relating to Paris, France. Like, my lovely friend, Melissa from Epic Makeup just took a trip there and my delightful French friend, Marie-Laure from Fournier Communications has been quite..erm..."vocal" on twitter while cheering her country's team on in the FIFA World Cup. I've also been reading a delicious book called "The Sweet Life In Paris" by David Lebovitz".

So, since it doesn't look like I'm going to be dusting off my passport any time soon, I can at least have a pretend trip, and bring you guys along, by chatting about some French products that I have so we can at least feel like we've been to the City of Lights. Plus, I'll even give you guys a souvenir at the end, too. Sound good?

Just like with any trip we take, we start out with something familiar before we explore and in this case, we'll start off with a brand that I have talked about on here before, Talika. I can't help it - I just think it's really good. And because I have been impressed with them in the past, I didn't hesitate when I was given the chance to try their new lash enhancer, Talika Liposils Expert.

I think by now most of you have heard of the possible side-effects of Latisse, the (*what seems like) most widely known lash enhancer out there. Well, some of us want similar results, but without the possible harmful side-effects and without needing a prescription. Enter Talika Liposils Expert, a formula made from "a blend of natural actives to regrow sparse lashes, grow and thicken existing ones, magnify natural color and curl your lashes." There are even clinical tests (*pdf) that show the changes possible:

  • growth: average length increase of 36%.
  • color intensifying effect: average color intensification of 50% (up to 100% improvement on blond and light brown lashes)
  • average increase in lash curve by 50%

In my case, I used the double applicator pretty much every day, twice a day the entire month of April (*I held this review to coincide closer to the actual release date). I didn't have any stinging or burning or discoloration. The applicator is double in that it has a spoolie part to apply directly to the lashes and a sponge tip to apply to the lash line itself. Now, the sponge end was kinda stained dark by the end of the month because I *may* not have removed my mascara good enough each day, but none of that transferred to my skin. Now, I have pretty decent lashes anyway, so the real thing that I noticed was the curling effect. It was truly noticeable by the end of the month, to the point that if i was just messing around, I didn't have to use my lash curler & still have a wide eyed effect.

I told you there would be souvenir's, right? Well, I would like to give 10 of you (*in the US only) the chance to get your own tube to try and see what results you can get for your own eyelashes. Just enter your name and email addy in the box below one time between now and Thursday, July 8th at MidnightCST & I will announce the winners on Friday, July 9th. And like any vacation, after you try this out, come back and show me your pics of how they look. Everyone likes vacay slideshows, don't they? ;)

Easy on the eyes

February 25, 2010 8:59 am · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

You guys know that I have talked about Talika on the site before. Heck, I even gave away a Beauty of Your Eyes kit in my blogiversary giveaway. Well, one of the products in that kit deserves a post/rave of its own.

Simply put, the Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser is one the most gentle, effective eye makeup remover you will use. Of course, this is merely my opinion, but I think if you try it you could def be persuaded to think the same. It is described as "An oil-free eye make-up remover for waterproof mascara.". I don't wear waterproof mascara, so this just dissolves my regular mascara as if it wasn't there. I know it says its for mascara, but I use it for all of my eyemakeup just as easily.

This is a gel that feels cool to the touch, without any scent. It is not sticky, nor does it leave a film after use. It doesn't burn or sting my eyes, nor does it blur my vision after I use it. I put one or two pumps, depending how much eye makeup I have on, on a cotton round, fold it over to spread it out and then place it on my closed eye for about 10seconds or so. Then I wipe it away - along with my eye makeup. It may take a swipe or two to get it clean, but that is only to make sure it gets it all, not because there are layers of film to wipe away. As for lash conditioning, my eyelashes do feel softer, but I truly can't tell much of a difference with anything else. I'm just more impressed by the cleansing, which I think helps them anyway.

Don't just take my word for it, either. Meredith, from RetroDiva's Beauty Bar recently had a chance to try it and I think her exactly words were something like, "Holy Crap - that really works! I have got to get me some of that!" (*I may be paraphrasing, as there might have been a curse in there somewhere, but the sentiment is the same). If you do try it/have tried it, let me know what you thought & if you didn't like it, I would love to know why.

Happy Birthday/Blogiversary to ME!

OMG - You Can Win *ALL* of THIS!!!

I love my birthday - like a fish loves water. I used to countdown to my birthday starting 30days prior. I try not to do that outloud any more, as some people seemed to tire of it, like the spoilsports that they are. I also like presents - A LOT. Because I am greedy like that. *shrug* However, this year, in observance of my almost 40th birthday, I have decided to give away a present to one of you - my fun readers. (*except for my fab Int'l readers, of which I know there are many. I'll try and make it up to you in the new year, okay?)

So, I asked some of my favorite brands if they would help me celebrating my birthday, and coincidentally, my 1st Blogiversary and they agreed. Check out what one lucky reader can win:

Talika Beauty of Your Eye Kit ($48)

CoverFX SkinprepFx ($45)

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion ($17)and Super Rich Olive Body Lotion ($10)

Clinique 3-Step Skin Care System (*sans bag) ($50.50), SuperBalm Moisturizing Gloss (14.00), Blushwear Cream Stick ($18.50), High Impact Mascara ($14.00) and Vitamin C Lip Smoothie ($17.50)

Kiss Professional Manicure Kit ($9.99)

Dashing Diva Nail Polishes ($56)

Holy Crap - That's worth more than $300! Do I love me some great brands, or what?

So, because it's *MY* birthday, I get to make the rules, sort of. Enter in the box below, one entry per person, randomly picked winner, etc. HOWEVER, I would also like to know what has been your favorite thing that I have written this past year, because I am all nosy like that. :)

The contest closes at Midnight on the night of the 17th, after I have enjoyed my entire birthday, and I will announce the winner on the 18th. Good luck and thanks for playing in my playground with me. :)

Can't look you in the eye the day after

August 22, 2009 5:55 pm · Posted by oldergirlbeauty

Ahh, Summer. The time for socializing.  I mean, yeah, it's hot, but the nights can be comfy to hang out on the deck, crack open some vino and laughing till really late. Sometimes too late, and too much vino. And you know....you just KNOW, that it's gonna show up the next morning, with the puffy eyes and dark circles. Well, I know of something that can help that.

It's a product from France, called the Talika Eye Therapy Patch.  You put this patch on and in 30min you look like a rested, functioning human being. They say, "This reusable patch, spectacularly reduces all trace of fatigue appearing under the eyes. It is a pleasant, effective, natural and comfortable solution for combating wrinkles, circles and under-eye puffiness. The results are visible and have been clinically proven by Dermatologists at the "Hôpitaux de Paris de la Salpétrière".

I say, "You can keep these in the fridge for an added burst of coolness. Put these on and lay down - either to go to bed, or when you wake up in the morning feeling 'under the weather' - and in a little while, your eyes really do feel better." Now, I don't really have eye wrinkles - *knock on wood* - so I can't really speak to the effectiveness on those, but it truly did reduce puffiness and lessen the darkness under my eyes when I had a chance to try them. (*You are not required to keep these in the fridge - in fact the carrying case makes it easy to take these with you.)

You can get these patches online for $62, which includes a jewel case with 6 pairs of patches, that can each be reused 3 times or so. There are also refills available for $56.

Holy crap, it's hot.

I am not even playing. These triple digit temps here in Oklahoma have been miserable. (*what did I say the other day? 104 should only be the answer to what is 52 + 52.) Granted, while it's a chilly 94 today, I *know* that the triple digits will be back. It's Oklahoma. It's what we do. But, since I have lived here my whole life, I've picked up a few ways to beat the heat at the end of the day. And, while the products may change, the thought remains the same.

I have an extra fridge out in the garage, and I have a shelf in the door that I keep a bunch of beauty products that feel oh so good when put on cold.
The things I have in there currently range from toner, to masks, to masque, lotions, sprit and scent:
In addition I have a couple of other items that doesn't go in the fridge, but are still important for summer use:
I'll let you know in the next few posts why I like this stuff enough to give it shelf space in the fridge.
